| New Training Resources for Community Mission |
| Need inspiration to go out into your communities and make a difference? Looking for a focus for your Churches Together work? Want to help your churches understand more about sharing their faith and caring for their communities? Well, here are two excellent resources to help you fulfil those ambitions and more: |
| Square Mile – “Would anyone in your community notice if your church ceased to exist?” |
| Square Mile – “Would anyone in your community notice if your church ceased to exist?” This is a DVD based 4 week course – it “exists to catalyse and equip Christians to take an integrated approach to mission, expressed in four dimensions: Mercy – demonstrating God’s compassion to the poor; Influence – being salt and light in the public life of the community; Life Discipleship – equipping Christians for missional living as workers and neighbours; and Evangelism – faithful and relevant communication of the Gospel.” |
| The four week course uses a combination of thought provoking discussion questions, in depth bible study, interviews with leading thinkers and activists, inspiring stories from around the UK, giving your group the opportunity to develop a bigger view of mission and plan together to take action. |
| Just People - “Equipping churches to respond to local and global poverty” |
| This 6 week interactive course looks at compassion, justice and how your church can effect change locally and globally. The course consists of DVD films, biblical discussion and practical action that will challenge your small or large groups’ understanding of mission. Sessions are on: |
| • Roots – The theology behind the Christian concern for the poor |
| • Mission – The joined up, or integral mission to which we are called |
| • Compassion – A church that is merciful and compassionate |
| • Politics – a church that works for justice |
| • Action – A practical day or event which provides an opportunity for collective action and an experience to reflect on and learn from |
| • Church – What does all this mean for how we operate as church |
| • Cost – the personal challenge for us to be “just people” |
| Both courses are highly recommended. There are full leaders notes and resources are also available on their web sites. : |
